The Stott Lab (XPHiles Lab) focuses on the environmental microbiology and the microbial ecology of extreme, unusual and/or energetically-challenging environments.
Our current work encompasses a wide spectrum of topics including new methods for cultivating rare microorganisms, microbial genomics and function, microbial diversity and taxonomy, and the intersection of indigenous data sovereignty and mātauranga within microbiology, genomics and biotechnology.
Matthew Stott is a Professor of environmental and extreme microbiology at the School of Biological Sciences at the University of Canterbury. Matthew co-convenes the New Zealand Microbial Ecology Consortium (NZMEC), is the NZ ambassador for the International Society for Microbial Ecology (ISME) and the NZ representative for the International Committee on Systematics of Prokaryotes (ICSP).
